A Mobile Vet Who Actually Knows the County

Dr. Solomon Perl has been making house calls in Montgomery County since 1993. He lives in Olney. He knows these neighborhoods, these roads, and — after 30 years — a lot of the pets. Washington Consumers' Checkbook rated him #1 in the county for Overall Care and Advice, with a perfect score for Helping Keep Pet Medical Costs Down. Washingtonian Magazine named him a Top Pet Care provider in the Mobile Vets category.

Where He Goes

Dr. Perl covers the eastern and southern part of the county — Olney, Rockville, Silver Spring, Bethesda, Chevy Chase, Potomac, Kensington, Takoma Park, Sandy Spring, and Brookeville — and extends into Northwest Washington DC. If you're further west in Gaithersburg or Germantown, Dr. James covers those areas. Call (443) 828-2222. Not sure? Call either number and we'll sort it out.

What It's Actually Like

Dr. Perl arrives at your home at the scheduled time. He examines your pet on a familiar surface — your couch, your floor, wherever your dog or cat is most relaxed. He talks through what he finds, answers your questions without a clock running, and tells you directly what he thinks. There's no waiting room. There's no hand-off to a technician. It's a 45-minute appointment with the doctor.

For cats especially, this changes everything. A cat examined at home — on its own turf, without car stress and clinic smells — is a different patient than the one that arrives terrified in a carrier. The readings are more accurate. The experience is better for everyone.

What a House Call Covers

Everything you'd get at a clinic, in your home. Wellness exams, vaccinations, parasite prevention, in-home blood work and diagnostics, nutrition consultations, sick pet evaluations, behavioral assessments, senior pet care, and compassionate at-home euthanasia when that time comes.

Who Calls Us Most

Multi-cat households where getting everyone to a clinic is a real production. Senior dogs who don't ride comfortably anymore. Families with a cat that hasn't seen a vet in three years because the last trip was a disaster. And busy people who want an actual appointment — not a two-hour block where they wait an hour and see the doctor for ten minutes.

How to Schedule

Call (301) 774-5656. Dr. Perl manages his own schedule personally. If he is with a patient, leave your name, number, and what your pet needs — he will call you back promptly. Most Montgomery County clients can be seen within a few business days for non-urgent visits.

  • Thank you so much for so promptly sending the heartworm medicine for Bartleby and all of the excellent care you provide for him.

    —Allison.

  • Thank you for your compassionate care of Bitty during this difficult time. I am grateful for all you did for her, and especially grateful that she was at home at the end and for your kind help to me in dealing with this. I hope that you'll eventually hear from me again for a happier purpose.

    —Gregory

  • I wasn't able to find the right words to thank you when you brought Rowdy's remains back to us. Thank you for your kindness and compassion during the whole procedure and before talking on the phone with Mike in deciding what to do. As difficult as it was there was some comfort and peacefulness in letting Rowdy go in our own backyard by St Francis. A place he loved so much. We appreciate you hand delivering our special guy back to us.

    —Tanya

  • Thank you for sending the meds and for fielding my call about Rudy yesterday. So grateful for you.

    —Lyn

  • I wanted to let you know how blessed I feel to have had you as my vet in Cupid's final days. You were very supportive and showed both Cupid and myself compassion in making this hard decision. I really do feel it was because of you and your service that Cupid was so at ease and accepting when the time came. The only thing I wish I could change, would be having you as our veterinarian much sooner than the final few weeks.

    —Amy

  • Thank you so much for all of your practical, applicable surgical advise. I learned a lot of valuable techniques and appreciate you taking the time to impart some wisdom. It was nice working with you.

    —Erin, veterinary extern at WARL
