A Traveling Vet With 30 Years Behind Her
Dr. Jacqueline James has spent her career across every corner of veterinary medicine — corporate practice, shelter and rescue work, running her own clinic. Now she does exclusively in-home care, and it shows. She brings additional training in holistic and integrative medicine, including nutrition response testing and fear-free exam techniques. For Howard County pet owners looking for a vet who treats the whole animal, not just the symptom in front of her, Dr. James is the call to make.
Howard County and Beyond
Dr. James covers all of Howard County — Columbia in every village, Ellicott City, Clarksville, Fulton, Elkridge, Savage, Jessup, Sykesville, Mount Airy, Highland, Glenwood, Woodbine, and more. She also takes appointments in Gaithersburg and Germantown, and serves portions of Prince George's County. If you're not sure whether she comes to your address, just call — she'll tell you directly.
What the Visit Is Actually Like
Dr. James arrives at your home, examines your pet where they're comfortable, and gives you her full attention for the duration of the appointment. No waiting room, no handoff to a technician, no rushed ten-minute slot. She talks through what she finds and answers questions directly.
Her fear-free training means she knows how to move through an exam in a way that doesn't escalate anxiety. For cats who are difficult at the clinic, this often makes a significant difference — a cat on its own couch is a calmer, more readable patient than one arriving traumatized in a carrier.
What She Brings to Your Home
Everything a clinic appointment covers — physical exams, vaccinations, heartworm and parasite prevention, in-home blood work, nutritional consultations, sick pet evaluations, senior care, holistic assessments, and end-of-life support. She'll tell you honestly if something needs hospital equipment. Most of the time, it doesn't.
Who Calls Us Most
Multi-cat households where the clinic logistics are genuinely hard. Senior pets who are uncomfortable traveling. Pets who have had bad clinic experiences and whose owners have just been avoiding it. And busy Howard County families who want an appointment that respects their time.
How to Schedule
Call (443) 828-2222. Dr. James manages her own Howard County schedule. Most clients can be seen within a few business days for non-urgent visits.

Thank you so much for so promptly sending the heartworm medicine for Bartleby and all of the excellent care you provide for him.

Thank you for your compassionate care of Bitty during this difficult time. I am grateful for all you did for her, and especially grateful that she was at home at the end and for your kind help to me in dealing with this. I hope that you'll eventually hear from me again for a happier purpose.

I wasn't able to find the right words to thank you when you brought Rowdy's remains back to us. Thank you for your kindness and compassion during the whole procedure and before talking on the phone with Mike in deciding what to do. As difficult as it was there was some comfort and peacefulness in letting Rowdy go in our own backyard by St Francis. A place he loved so much. We appreciate you hand delivering our special guy back to us.

Thank you for sending the meds and for fielding my call about Rudy yesterday. So grateful for you.

I wanted to let you know how blessed I feel to have had you as my vet in Cupid's final days. You were very supportive and showed both Cupid and myself compassion in making this hard decision. I really do feel it was because of you and your service that Cupid was so at ease and accepting when the time came. The only thing I wish I could change, would be having you as our veterinarian much sooner than the final few weeks.
